Ducati Demon. My main personal project in Royal College, after my degree project, was Ducati Monster re-styling early 2003. Starting point for me was to play with the iconic Monster and maintain it's classical appearance. But I wanted to do more; I wanted to create multifunctional bike with two different characters in one setup. This is achieved with removable fairing -with fairing attached the bike has a bit more wind protection, but without it the bike transforms to a very aggressive streetfighter. With exhaust on the bottom of the bike together with classic, clean and very light rear end, I wanted to make my concept Monster look even bit more monsterous than today. I entered to Ducati Design competition with it and it made it's way to the final. Image below is scanned from British MCN -magazine. It appeared in the pages of several other magazines too.
Design and modeling I did by myself (and I swet a lot), but rendering was done by my flat mate and current CG -artist Heikki Anttila. Last couple of pictures are taken from the rapid prototype -model, which was made from my data to the scale 1:9. It was real Christmas time when I saw the bike first time in "flesh" after endless hours of 3D modeling! This project had basicly two targets; to create supersmall vehicle which would offer special driving pleasure with silent and pollution-free new technology. Basicly TILT is based on similar system, I used in my Degree project Aprilia Magnet, but it is yet quite different. It is definitely a car (with roof etc), but very, very small, with tandem seating arrangement. TILT is merely a concept exercise -exterior design wa secondary in my priority list. Actually I spent more time designing the engine set up, functonality and looks than exterior. Well, I don't know about you, but I'd like to try this kind of car someday. In my personal research I found that most of the current SUVs are made only for the urban environment and they lack real sportiness. I think future SUVs should get smaller and smarter. That is why my Toyota "Buggy Coupe" -concept is a small and sporty two-seater, with some flavour of off-road buggy. But this was a good and fast exercise how the refining of the surfaces and direction of the main lines affect to the the dynamics of the modern motorbike. |
